Drum ‘n Bass

Scottfro Appearance Scheduled

Scottfro is scheduled to appear on dnbradio.com tomorrow at or around 8pm EST. He’s got to hustle out from work at 7, grab his gear from the house, get out to my dorm room, set it up, and test it all before we can play. It will be tight, but we hope to come on at about 8. Of course if you miss it, that’s okay.. I’ll be recording.

Update: Scottfro finished his set on dnbradio a short while ago. I’m glad I ultimately got the chance to host him. It was something I had been talking about for a while, but only actually followed through on at the last minute as I’m moving out of the room the day after tomorrow. Scott has taken the set home with him for some tweaking, and will hand it back to me for posting tomorrow.

DJ Thread – Look Ma, I’m a DJ!

Wow, I never thought I’d really even bother trying. But somehow, I happened to put together a 55 minute set of hard drum ‘n bass that will make you want to bust out and kill peeps. Seriously, though, I’m surprised how much fun it is to “be a dj” and spin tunes you like. Maybe I’ll try another one of smoother, easier dnb sometime. Anyway, I’ve posted teh torrent (dead) for those interested. Just set up this BNBT bittorrent tracker/php management thingy. Seems nice. I have a few fixed seeders on the torrent, so it should give you good speed…. but if you must, here’s a direct link.

Here’s the tracklist:

  1. Thread – Altogether Pancho
  2. Concord Dawn – Morning Light
  3. Loxy & B Key – Battlescars
  4. Commix – Tychoon
  5. Rawthang – Dreadnaught
  6. DJ Hidden – Ghost Story
  7. The Enemy & Kid Kryptic – Malice Afterthought
  8. The Upbeats – The Gospel
  9. Dataset – Disco Beat
  10. Unicron – Orion’s Five
  11. Fatal – Torn
  12. K.O.T.P. – Krypton Factor
  13. Gridlock & Echo – Structure
  14. Gridlock – V_Ger
  15. Eminem Vs. Rareform & Spirit – Yes I Am (Mix 1)
  16. Dom vs Calx – Pneumatic (Sledgehammer)
  17. Imagination D – Electroc
  18. Hive – Krush
  19. Mr. L Feat. Super Fly Seven – Back to your Roots
  20. Random Movement – Lifegiver

Oh, and I suppose I must credit the excellent Mixxx DJ software. It’s not quite as good as Traktor, but it’s for Linux!

Update Tues Apr 26: They played this set on dnbradio.com tonight in place of the mighty Decompression Sessions, which was cancelled. Now I’m famous!! ;) Anyway, the mix was actually pretty poor having listened to it another couple times… on the other hand, I did do it without any headphone cue.

Update Thu Mar 30, 2005: This file was deleted due to low hdd space. It wasn’t a very good mix anyway. :)

Temple Club Hosts Scottfro & Co.

Scottfro and Silence

So it has been another wonderful night at the Temple Club tonight. Scottfro played with Silence tonight… that means two laptops, two minds, and generally twice as much sound. Hear it today at 192 kbps by visiting the torrents. Also, the Decompression Sessions happened again (also posted), although I’m only now listening to it. Man, I should go to bed.

Update: Kris’s name is actually Sci1ence. Whoopz! If you grabbed the torrent before 3pm today (Wednesday), you might want to try again. I’ve corrected the file.

Decompression Sessions, All Over Again

Man, I don’t know if I’m going to make a habit out of this or what, but tonight’s Decompression Sessions freakin did me good. Big up to Dozha and his Krew (Freezha & Serpico) you guys can really put on a show. Again, I’ve posted it on my own mostly broken torrenttrader installation. Just click little red file icon next to the file to get the torrent file directly.

A Weekend in Chicago

teh cityWorld of DNB IIWorld of DNB II

Talk about a good time! I’ve never been to Chicago before, so when my friend asked me if I wanted to hit up a drum and bass show and spend a weekend in the city, I just couldn’t refuse. The World of DNB II was Friday night. A bunch of different DJs spun mostly the hard & evil variety of drum ‘n bass, at least once the party really started kicking. They had a pretty serious sound system there, and it was fun to be rocked so hard when standing right near the speaker.

Saturday afternoon was spent wandering the streets of Chicago, eating at various places, and generally hanging out. We visited a handful of bars and restaurants until we finally ended up at our internet researched pick for the evening, a dance club/bar called Berlin. It was pretty hoppin from like 11 until probably 5 when they close (5pm-5am servicing bar!). The 4-to-the-floor house sound’s borningness was offset by how incredibly sloshed I got that night. =)

Serpico, Freezha, and Dozha, at it Again

It’s another tuesday night, and you know what that means… DECOMPRESSION SESSIONS. Well maybe you don’t, and if that’s the case, I suggest you get the torrent and hear it cuz they put on another excellent show this evening. This time, the torrent is hosted on my own experimental deployment of torrenttrader. b0h!!

Altogether Pancho

I sat on this one for quite some time, offering previews to people as it sat in an unfinished state. Well, I finally had a spare moment to boot back to windows and make the last couple tweaks. So for your listening enjoyment, I now present, Altogether Pancho.

Also, I think I feel another KMP release coming on…

House Party, Upcoming DNB, and Desktop Blather

My Desktop

So I usually post a bunch of cool stuff when I go to shows, but last night’s house party show wasn’t quite everything I was hoping for. My friend Matt and I got there way early, so we did a lot of hanging around and meeting of the people before the music even got kicking. There was quite an unexpected lineup of breaks DJ’s that spun before Scottfro’s “12:00” show came on at about 2:30. Unfortunately, Matt and I were exhausted by then, and only stayed for about 30 mins of Scott’s set before it came to my attention that I had a parking ticket. Oh nice.

Some of the breaks were pretty good, but I was really there to hear Scott & Chris’s set. The main disappointment was how long it took for them to get on. And when they did, technical difficulties made getting started a challange… But anyway, alongside Scott, Chris had a laptop and some midi controllers sync’d up with Scott’s. (They use Ableton Live!) Chris also used a turntable to spin some beats and do some scratching over Scott’s sound. It was pretty neat to see some live collaboration from those guys.

In other news, I’m planning to go to The World of DNB II in Chicago on April 1 with my good friend Aren and his girl. Looks like a dope lineup… can’t wait to hear the sounds.

In yet other news, because I feel like it, I’m going to post a screenshot today. It’s the fresh gnome 2.10 (man, those nautilus windows pop up faster than ever now) with the torsmo system monitor. It’s pretty neat… I just know you wanted to see it.

(Yes, I’m running dual screens, but I cropped out the other one since you don’t need to see it. Also, a neat script lets me see what’s playing in mpd in the torsmo. In this case, it’s the almighty dnbradio.com! whOOt!)

Update, Noon on Monday: Well, the ticket only cost me $7. I paid it on the phone… better luck next time…

Venetian Snares

Venetian Snares

It was last Saturday night when Venetian Snares played at the Labyrinth in Detroit. His show came after an excellent line-up of live producers. Flybrains, 000, Kero, Derek Michael, God and his Bitches, and Shenanigans all played. Actually, I’m not 100% sure they all played since I don’t remember 6 different shows. But anyway, there was an abundance of weird ambient-industrial-idm noises and such for many more hours than a normal person could withstand… and it was awesome.

Here are some pictures I took.

In other news, I’ve upgraded my wordpress website to the all new version 1.5. I must say, WordPress is where it’s at. It will now keep all my static content pages in the database and allow me to do lots of new & neat stuff. I might reimplement my user-changeable themes, but for now you’re stuck with this new one I’ve cooked up.

DJ Freezha & MC Dozha

Denver Kru

The picture shows Freezha, MC Dozha, and then DJ Serpico (who didn’t spin in this particular set). This picture was taken at a club, but they do their dnbradio set right out of Dozha’s house.

I’ve been listening to the dnbradio.com for a while now, and still I think one of my favorite shows is that of Freezha, sometimes Serpico, and MC Dozha. They always seem to have really good track sleection, and Dozha adds some flava without being annoying (like some of the MC’s). They wouldn’t record it for me, so I had to settle for the 128 kbps coming to me from the stream. Once live from Denver, Colorado, I now release last Tuesday’s set for your enjoyment.
