Ubuntu Dapper Drake Flight 5

Dapper Drake on my Laptop

It was a few days after I saw Ubuntu Dapper Drake Flight 5 featured on Digg that I realized I needed to try it out on my laptop, upgrading it from Breezy. Wow was that ever a good idea.

Now, not only does my laptop properly go into and out of suspend AND hibernate (where this would fail in Breezy), but I get to use the excellent Gnome 2.14 before it even comes out. (The final release is due out today, however.) Linux just keeps getting better.

  5. halt! How are you going lad? I hung out as Safari_Al in #bb too. You should drop into #openbox on irc.oftc.net sometime and say hi!

  7. Halt! Long time no read. Definitely stop in at the channel and say hey.

And yeah, I’ve successfully installed xgl/compiz on my gentoo desktop AND my dapper laptop now. Runs nice on the desktop (when the cpu isn’t under high load), but like poop on the laptop with its piddly Intel graphics.

I don’t actually use it on either machine right now, though… Cuz I can’t get it to work right with Openbox.
