Threadbox.net is Back!
Yeah, I know.. It’s been a while since threadbox.net actually had any worthwhile content, and being as busy as I am with school and other affairs, I decided to just put the old design back up. I think it’s more personable than drupal (the content management system that was up here for the last few months).. and well, drupal really wasn’t what I needed for threadbox.net.
What happening right now? Well, I’m still living in the dorms here at Michigan State University.. and my roommate and I are working on kmp—a user-friendly, QT/KDE client for MPD, the Music Player Daemon. Using a backgrounded daemon to play your music has several advantages. First, you can remote control your music over the network. This would allow you to set up a dedicated mpd box and hook it up to your stereo. Second, you can have any number of clients connected to it at any time, all reporting the same information, in sync. Why is this useful? On my desktop right now, I have a full-featured, gui client, WMmp (window maker style square client in my openbox slit), and an IRC script. Also, you can have no clients at all attached, and the music keeps on going! (Need to restart x? Never fear, you won’t be left in silence.)
Oh, and trackbox is dead. MPD does what trackbox set out to do, except it was written properly in C. The trackbox section will be replaced with a kmp one once it’s deemed release worthy. That’s all for now. Later, kids.
